Founder, Inventor, and CEO
Sheldon Gilbert is the founder and CEO of Proclivity Systems, a leading technology provider for next-generation e-commerce targeted marketing and merchandising. Based on advanced predictive modeling of consumer behavior, Proclivity’s ability to accurately determine what online consumers will buy, when, and specific price-points, has begun to change the e-commerce landscape. As CEO, Sheldon provides the vision for the company, manages day-to-day operations, oversees sales efforts and applies his technological expertise as inventor and chief architect of the patent-pending engine in leading product development and R&D. As inventor, Sheldon is the author of several pending patents in the field of e-commerce predictive modeling from which the core technology is based.
Sheldon drew his inspiration for founding of Proclivity Systems from his dual interest and background in molecular genetics and data mining. The coveted convergence of these fields in recent years, led him to pursue graduate studies in Computational Genomics & Bioinformatics which he ultimately deferred to develop the core technology and launch Proclivity Systems.
Sheldon’s experience in data mining and e-commerce began as Lead Developer and Senior Consultant for Business Intelligence at Fort Point Partners, a leading systems integration firm that developed the industry’s earliest and most advanced e-commerce platforms. Sheldon's leadership in this emerging field at Fort Point Partners resulted in the formation of enterprise-wide business intelligence, analytic database, and data warehouse systems critical to the sales, merchandizing, marketing, and campaign initiatives of a number of high-profile retail and financial services clients, such as Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Best Buy, and Finish Line. Thereafter, Sheldon served as the Director of Business Intelligence and Data Mining Services at Bluefly.com, Inc., a leading high-fashion online apparel retailer. During his tenure with Bluefly, Sheldon developed, launched, and managed its business intelligence division.
Sheldon is a graduate of Yale University with a B.A. in Molecular Biochemistry & Biophysics. During the course of his academic career, his interest and research has spanned a variety of areas of molecular biology. As an undergraduate, he conducted research in tropical infectious diseases at The Yale University School of Medicine and as a visiting researcher at The Institute of Oswaldo Cruz, Brazil. Upon graduation from Yale, Sheldon interned at the White House in the Office of National AIDS Policy. Thereafter, he spent several years performing research in molecular genetics at The Rockefeller University and The Cornell University Medical Center with emphasis on studying single nucleotide polymorphisms, constructs central in analysis of the genome for understanding disease states.
An avid volunteer teacher, Sheldon currently serves on the advisory board of The Goldman Sachs Scholars/Liberty Leads Program, having previously served as a founding science instructor for the college preparatory program. He is also an active alumnus of The U.S. Experiment in International Living where he served as a three-time group leader in northern and central Italy. Sheldon has received numerous academic awards and scholarships and has actively facilitated the creation of several academic and travel abroad scholarships for many of the underprivileged youth within the various programs where he has taught and mentored over the years.
